Join us for our January Lunch & Learn: Software Workflows for Shop Management! This topic was super popular at the conference to dig into, and we will start Noah Coleman of the Ringling College of Art and Design talking demoing his use of the software Airtable from scheduling to tool maintenance logs!  There will be time for open discussion if others have solutions they'd like to share.

SSMC:2022 - IN-PERSON Conference

Please join us July 12-14, 2022 for SSMC:2022 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Planning is underway and more details will be posted soon. This conference will feature speakers and panel discussions with a focus on Standard Operating Procedures in relation to EHS, Training, and Diversity and Inclusion, topic-based break-out rooms, shop tours and field trips (Gateway Arch, Ball Park Village & More!!).

REGISTRATION OPEN!!

For planning purposes registration amounts are as follows:

  • $375: Regular Registration Members (between March 30th and June 30th)

  • $400: Regular Registration Non - Members* (between March 30th and June 30th)
    ---

  • $450: Late Registration (between July 1 and July 8) - no membership


Registration will include most meals, conference events, tours, evening reception and conference materials. Housing and some extra activities will not be included. 

*Registration comes with one-year SSMC membership

Join us for our April Lunch & Learn: Passing the Hammer: Retiring from Shop Life! If you have recently retired in the last several years or plan on retiring soon, we want to hear from you! Those retiring recently have had a massive impact on shop life, have contributed to growth of their shops, and have shared their knowledge by teaching students and staff alike everything from tips and tricks to how to run a shop. Heck, they even started SSMC!

Learn tips, tricks, and tech from guest expert and fellow shop manager Josh Jordan of Columbia GSAPP. Get the director's cut commentary that you always wanted and learn multiple ways to edit different types of shop videos to get your information out to the shop masses!

Josh is the director of the Making Studio at Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. He and his student crew have made many video tutorials showing modeling techniques for students making at home during the pandemic, safety tutorials on tools in the shop, and fun videos for social media on the culture and life of the Making Studio. Josh is currently teaching a class called "Model Fictions: The Technologies of Film and Production Design in Architecture" which teaches students about creating and editing video as part of their design process.
